Synthes (USA) was formed in 1974 and began marketing the AO/ASIF system the following year. Since the company began operation in 1975, it has grown from a small distributor to the leading skeletal fixation company in North America.
Synthes (USA) provides instruments and implants to many U.S. hospitals, including almost all medical school residency training facilities. The company has committed significant resources to assist medical schools and the AO Foundation in conducting the most comprehensive post-graduate training programs available for the orthopaedic surgeon. With emphasis on practical work in a laboratory setting, these courses enable the surgeon to learn how to use the instruments and implants, and to learn and practice the various surgical techniques.
Our Synthes Orthopaedic division, formed in 1974, designs and markets products used in surgery involving the small and large bones of the body, excluding the face, skull and spine. This division has its dedicated sales force and product development team.
Synthes CMF was formed in 1984 as a company called Syndent., and in 1985 evolved to become Synthes CMF. Synthes CMF's primary focus is the design and marketing of medical devices used in surgery of the facial bones, skull and jawbone, providing treatments not only for trauma applications, but also reconstructive surgery. This division has a dedicated sales force and product development team.
The Synthes Spine Company, formed in 1991, has been our largest growing market over recent years, treating degenerative spine disorders as well as trauma. This division has a dedicated sales force and product development team.
Synthes (USA) has supported veterinary orthopaedics since its inception. In 2005 the Synthes Vet division was formed to focus solely on this expanding niche market.
Our direct sales force of highly trained professionals services all of North America, and is available twenty-four hours per day, seven days per week.
Our manufacturing facilities are located in Monument, Colorado; West Chester (Brandywine), Pennsylvania; Elmira, New York and Tuttlingen, Germany. These state of the art manufacturing facilities combine American ingenuity, Swiss and German precision, and Japanese manufacturing techniques to produce the best instruments and implants in the world.
Our Distribution Center in Monument, Colorado features state of the art warehousing and distribution operations. Almost all orders are processed and shipped the same day, ensuring the best possible service to our customers.
Our Technical Center in West Chester (Brandywine), Pennsylvania houses the future of Synthes, where product managers, development engineers, model makers, and support personnel employ the most modern technology to design and develop the highest quality and most innovative trauma products available.
