chronOS - Trauma

chronOS, a synthetic, biocompatible bone void filler, is ideal for many bone void filler applications.  The material is a radiopaque β-tricalcium phosphate which contains two of the main mineral constituents of bone, calcium and phosphorus.  chronOS is resorbed and replaced by bone in 6-18 months during the healing process.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Available as granules and preform shapes
  • Provides the ideal pore size (100-500µm) and porosity (60-80%) for bony ingrowth
  • Reduces operation time and morbidity associated with iliac crest harvests, which may lead to shorter hospital stay and therapy
  • Can be perfused with the patient’s own blood or bone marrow
  • Can be used alone or mixed with autograft for large volume defects

Indications

  • Intended only for bony voids or defects that are not intrinsic to the stability of the bony structure in the extremities, spine and pelvis
  • Intended for treatment of surgically or traumatically created osseous defects
  • Intended to be gently packed or placed into the site and may be combined with autogenous blood, bone marrow or saline

Contraindications*

chronOS is contraindicated in the following circumstances:

  • In the presence of active or suspected infection
  • Defects in the region of unclosed epiphyseal cartilage (i.e. fractures of the growth plate)
  • Segmental defects of long bones
  • Areas which are subjected to excessive impact or stress
